The Fou(R)’s

Reflect, Rejoice, Refresh, and Relate

I have been on a journey to visit each pew in the different parts of the sanctuary. I approached each new pew location with a question: “Is this seat taken?” I was always invited to sit with them. I found something new in myself and in the friends I sat with. At each new location, I got to know more about the friends through the stories of their life. It also reminded me of our ties to each other.

Each of us has a story to tell. We should listen to these stories so that each friend will not be forgotten. It is a clear way to show love to friends. I also thanked each friend for the moments we spent time together.

On my journey to visit each pew in the different parts of the sanctuary, I found a place to worship, to sing, to be with friends, to listen to the sermon , to see new areas of the sanctuary, a place to be Holy and a place to be with God.”

Larry D. Cunningham

*Larry’s journey in the pews began when he retired as head usher after 51 years. The drawing of this journey and the volume of manuals he created, “from sump pumps to AC, anything & everything you want to know about the church,” comes naturally with a degree in industrial arts (minors in physics and math). He was a draftsman for ODOT for 27 years. Larry and his wife Elaine volunteered for the US Forest Service for 22 summers as forest fire watchers and campground helpers and provided 40 years of maintenance in this church. He says the head usher was his 4th retirement.
