We invite you to worship with us during our Holy Week activities. From Palm Sunday through Easter, there is an event to help you grow closer to God.
Sunday, April 9 | 8:30, 10:50 and 11 am
These powerful services begin with splendor and joy as we reenact Christ’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem by waving palms and proclaiming “Hosanna to the Son of David!” However, upon reading the account of Christ’s Passion from the Gospel of Matthew, our hearts will reverently turn as we are reminded of the events in the week ahead.
Easter Social & Egg Hunt | 11:30 am - 2 pm
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held in the empty lot to the northwest of the church at 11:30. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the delicious food trucks, Easter Egg Hunt, Easter bonnet contest, bounce house, games and more! Invite your friends and family to join you.
Holy Week Breakfast
Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 14 | 6 am
Breakfast will be provided in Wesley Hall each morning, prior to daily devotions.
Holy Week Devotions
Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 14 | 6:30 am
Early morning Holy Week devotionals have been a beloved tradition at First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Each service lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes a homily, prayers and simple hymns. Coffee and breakfast items are provided and you may either enjoy them at the church or “on the go”.
Maundy Thursday Worship Service
Thursday, April 13| 7 pm
Maundy is an old English word that is derived from the Latin mandatum meaning “mandate”. At this service, we will hear Jesus’ mandate from the Gospel of John: “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” In response to those sacred words, our clergy will offer foot washing to those who feel so moved. We will also commemorate the Last Supper by sharing in Holy Communion, which further binds us in love as a community. Rev. Samuel Powers will preach and music will be led by soloists and organ.
Good Friday Worship Service
Friday, April 14| 7 pm
Our Adult Choir will present Théodore Dubois dramatic oratorio “The Seven Last Words of Christ” with guest conductor Joel Garber and Director of Music Ministries, Andrew Schaeffer as organist. Written in 1867, this 50-minute musical work powerfully takes the listener on the journey from Christ’s condemnation in front of Pontius Pilot to his final breath. This will be the fifth time this work has been presented at FUMC since it was introduced to the congregation in 1950 and it has not been presented since 1995. You won’t want to miss this very special musical offering.
Easter Sunday Worship Services
Sunday, April 16| 7, 8, 9:30, 10:50 and 11 am
Christ is risen! Alleluia! Join us to worship and celebrate the resurrection of our Lord at any of three triumphant services in the Sanctuary or at 10:50 in Wesley Hall. Music is provided by the Adult Choir at 8:00 & 9:30 and the Chorister Children’s Choir and Adult Choir at 11:00a.m. The Hurd Street Band will lead the 10:50 service.
