Prayer Shawl Ministry

Who we are: We are a group of caring and prayerful people who enjoy knitting and crocheting. We welcome experts as well as beginners, with all skill levels in between. We’ve been known to teach anyone who wants to learn and have supplies to lend.

What we do: The shawls are made intentionally for someone experiencing a time of transition, challenge, crisis or need. While stitching, the maker of the shawl holds that person in her thoughts and prayers. During our time together, we may share about the recipient of the shawl. Upon completion, the group prays together for the shawl and its recipient.

Who we minister to: Those in need of strength while undergoing medical procedures; those in need of comfort after a loss; those in need of peace and patience during an illness and recovery; those in celebration of graduation, a marriage or a birth of a child…There are endless possibilities!

Why we do it: The shawl represents Jesus’ arms and our prayers around the person who receives it. Shawls are something tangible someone can hold on to, a way for the recipient to see and feel grace, love, peace and the prayers of others.

Where and when we meet: During the regular school year, on Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, in room 102. Many of our members choose to attend the Wednesday evening meal and worship prior to our group meeting. Several of our members leave early to attend choir practice. During the summer months, we stay flexible to the needs of the member and meet sporadically.

How you may help: Since we use a specific type of yarn, monetary donations to purchase yarn are most preferable. If you can’t meet with us on Wednesdays, but would like to make shawls at home, we would welcome your contributions. Your prayers for our ministry are always appreciated.

Additional Projects: From time to time, we learn of other ministries to needy and hurting people and some of our members choose to create items such as scarves, slippers, caps, bags, etc.
